About Our Program
The basic goal of the Montecito Union PE Program is to develop in our students an understanding of the positive impact an active lifestyle will have on their lives. Our developmentally appropriate program also provides a unique learning environment where affective, psychomotor and cognitive skills can be developed, as we practice the basic campus-wide expectations of students to “Be Kind, Be Respectful, Show Integrity, and Be Safe.”
Good health practices, sportsmanship, self-control, self-expression and the opportunity for positive social interaction with peers are our focus as we continue to lead our students to develop the habits of the mind that will help them be successful in all of life. Physical Education is the ideal platform to practice some key habits, including: persisting, managing impulsivity, and taking responsible risks.

This school year marks my 28th year of teaching Physical Education and I love every minute of it!! I graduated in 1987 from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania with a BA in PE and a minor in Health Education.
Prior to Montecito Union, I taught 6-8th grade PE for four years in Long Beach. After getting married and moving to Santa Barbara in 1993, I was lucky enough to land the dream job at Montecito Union where I have been since and plan on staying until I retire. All my life I have been involved in some type of physical activity or sport whether it was running cross-country, floor hockey, basketball, softball, or just hiking and bike riding. I always knew that some day I would love to teach PE and pass on my love of athletics and exercise to children. |

I am a native of Santa Barbara, having gone to local schools through high school, before attending UCLA for my undergraduate education, then Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where I earned my multiple subject teaching credential. I started my career at Vieja Valley Elementary School, teaching third and fourth grade, before taking a hiatus to focus on raising my three children. I went back to teaching when my kids were also at Monte Vista Elementary School and there I realized how much I loved teaching Physical Education. I have since earned my PE credential and feel incredibly privileged to have the best job in the world. More recently, I have enjoyed teaching our Kindergarten through third grade students in Yoga/Mindfulness Classes.
Outside of my professional life, I am married to my wonderful husband, Brad, who is also a Santa Barbara native. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, running, bike riding, beach walks, and cheering on my kids as they participate in various sporting and musical events. |
